Chagford v Newton Poppleford Cricket Club NPCC on Sun 28 Jun 2009 at 14:30
Newton Poppleford Cricket Club Won By 133 Runs

Match report Newton travelled to Chagford on a humid and overcast day. With this fixture being one of the highlights of their season, the threat of rain wasn`t going to dampen the spirits of a side that, on paper, was one of the strongest selected so far this year.
Asked to bat first, a steady drizzle greeted Newton`s openers but both Last and Chaplin were confident of making a good start against Chagford`s attack. Chaplin was clinical with anything loose but gave the fielders some hope and after surviving two drop catches he eventually succumbed, caught for a quick fire 36. With last doing his job of tying up one end Morison was able to take advantage and he kept the score moving, playing some glorious shots in the process.
When Last eventually departed for 22, Newton were now looking at posting a score of 200 plus but when Morison was caught for 28 a quick middle order collapse saw them lose 4 wickets for only 23 runs.
Stott had watched all this carnage unfold slightly bemused as he had no problems scoring freely all around the ground and he quickly passed his fifty with a couple of well timed shots. Joined first by Alex Raistrick (11) and Ed Thomas (12 not out) he ensured 50 were plundered from the last 5 overs to end Newton`s innings at 195 for 7, finishing himself on a commanding 65 not out.
Newton could`ve enjoyed the sumptuous tea all afternoon but were mindful that their score was 20 short of par for that wicket and they needed to get out and make early inroads in to Chagford`s capable looking line up.
Determined to start well, Chagford`s openers looked to hit out over the top until a deft fielding change by skipper Clay saw Alex Raistrick pocket a simple catch to give Thomas the first wicket. Stott then snaffled a catch at first slip before a bizarre dismissal saw the ball loop off the batman`s thigh pad and drop neatly on to the bails to give Thomas figures of 3 for 21. Mathew Raistrick chipped in with 1 for 15 to leave Chagford struggling at 38 for 4.
Chagford then pressed the self destruct button as first Alex Raistrick and then Marsh destroyed the middle and tail. Smart catches for Chaplin, Morison, Cardwell and another for man of the match Stott saw Alex return figures of 3 for 3, Marsh 3 for 19 and Chagford were all out for 62.
This result should provide a great confidence boost going in to next weeks derby against Tipton, but a nervous few days are in store for Newton`s captain until he knows the extent of some worrying injuries picked up by some of his key personnel.
