Newton Popps 20/20 blast fixture against Erratics saw dramatic scenes when the real talent of the Raistrick family claimed a victory that seemed lost with a huge six from the second last ball to guide to team over the line. Luke Raistrick chose the pressured cauldron of a match that was seemingly slipping away to strike his first outdoor competitive six straight down the ground to spark scenes of celebration among his team makes.
Erratics had set a challenging 151 to win batting first with the home team bowling generally finding it tough to keep control of scoring.
Newton Popps reply started positively with Anning taking 3 boundaries from the first over. Scoring remained high as Anning and then Kenny Clay retiring having reached 25. at 8 overs the total neared 80 and the run chased seemed on track. Some tight bowling and wickets Moore, Coombs and Raistrick Senior being victims saw the run chase stall. I brisk 22 from Cox, before being stumped got things back on track and with 5 overs remaining just 24 were required. However with Cox's dismissal runs became hard to come by and 3 overs still saw 18 required. The Wicket of Chatwood brought Luke Raistrick to the crease and he delivered a welcome boundary that brought hope. However he and his partner Leigh Adey continued to find runs difficult to find and when Adey unselfishly ran himself out trying to gain a second run, knowing there were batters in the hutch 14 were required from 2 overs. This reduced to 9 from the last over with opener Chris Anning back at the crease. When Anning lost the strike it was left to Raistrick (6 from 4). Two dots and the stress among his watching team mates was climbing. Raistrick however remained calm and duly delivered the telling blow striking, the to this point economic tall right arm seamer from Erratics, straight over long on and into his team mates, sparking scenes of real celebration. The win continues the Thursday night teams unbeaten run for the season.
