Newton Poppleford Cricket Club - COVID-19

With the update from the Prime Minister setting out a resumption for formal outdoor sport from 17th May 2021, this page sets out our rules and guidance to playing the game whilst the virus remains a risk:

  • Individuals should undergo a personal symptom check prior to all activity and not take part if they demonstrate any COVID-19 symptoms or if  someone in their household is symptomatic or self-isolating.
  • Groups are limited to a maximum of 30 participants, including coaches and officials. Junior training should be split in to groups of up to 15 children.
  • Club representatives will ensure that the facility is compliant with current Government legislation, guidance and policy.
  • Playing members and umpires should sanitise prior to the beginning of the game. All activity should include regular hygiene breaks for participants' hands and the ball, e.g. every six overs or 20 minutes.
  • Clubs should keep a record of attendees at a match/session, including contact details, to support NHS Test and Trace.
  • Players should remain socially distanced at all times. This includes shaking hands, “high-5’s”, hugging or close physical contact.
  • Players should minimise handling of the ball in all activity, by limiting contact as it makes its way back to the bowler and using small groups in training; no sweat or saliva should be added to the ball at any time.
  • Limit the sharing of equipment where possible. Where not possible, practice strict hand hygiene.
  • Batters to run in distinct running lanes to ensure they’re not within 2m of the bowler or their batting partner.
  • Hand sanitisers will be available at the club for use of any playing members and any visitors or spectators should they wish.
  • There will be no Tea’s provided by playing members. Discussion is underway to find alternative, safe ways of providing cricket teas.
