NPCC make rubbish pay

01 Jun 2018

Members of Newton Poppleford Cricket Club made rubbish pay for charity on a wet and windy Sunday in April. The club completed a rubbish collection and removal weekend, on the 15th April 2018, where they assisted local people in transporting rubbish to the recycling centre, at Sidmouth. Thanks to the generous donations made and the hard work of a hardy bunch of club members, the day raised £400. This has been shared equally between two deserving local causes.

At the clubs, AGM members discussed how the club could support the development of the Pavilion and the local primary school PTFA, who are currently raising funds towards new equipment, ready for the completion of the new school building work. They settled on the plan to offer residents of  Newton Poppleford and Harpford the opportunity of labour and transport to help dispose of unwanted household rubbish items.
Arriving at 9 am, on very wet and windy Sunday morning at The Cannon Inn car park, the group of  8 club members (you know who you are) could be forgiven for wondering, who thought this was a good idea!  Despite the wet, the mood was positive. Good progress was made by three teams each with a van, visiting a dozen addresses in total, in some cases more than once. All items and rubbish collected were sorted and disposed of correctly at the Sidmouth recycling centre. There was a quick stop for a bacon butty, thanks to 'Mrs Cox', before a house clearance in Sidmouth (and a very generous donation) finished the day around 3 pm. Despite some tired arms and legs the total raised made the effort worthwhile and the club is pleased to have passed £200 to both the Newton Poppleford School Association and the NPPFF - Capital project.
