Club Updates : Ground work

19 Aug 2019

Members

As some of you may already know Colin Whitehall (the finest groundsman in Devon) has unfortunately
broken his ankle and this means he is unable to maintain and prepare the grounds at Sidmouth and
Newton Poppleford. As we are towards the end of the season there are not many matches at the
Riverside Oval (Newton Popp) for us. Just the 8 and 15 September. However, there will be league
matches for Sidmouth and Exmouth and the ground needs to be kept in good condition until the end
of the season. At this point, there will need to be work to prepare for and then completion of scarifying
the wicket before seeding and loaming. Given that we are normally spoilt to have the ground maintained
for us to such a high standard, I would hope that all members will make themselves available to assist in
maintaining the ground while Colin is out of action. We wish him a speedy recovery.
I would also just like to take this opportunity to remind all members selected to play home matches that
there are plenty of jobs that need doing before and after matches. Pitches prepared, rope and posts
down, flags out, score box, seating, kitchen sweep changing rooms etc. If you are not sure what to do
please ask. As a village team, we all work together to enjoy playing and then hopefully resting in the pub!
