Treasurer's report
Summary overview
Club bank balance is £1644 now that the website is paid for and Richard Coombs has been reimbursed. £94 of that is player credit and £210 is reserved for the mower. Taking that into account, the real total is £1,340. Costs for this year will include Insurance (£300/£350), balls (around £275) and pitch hire (£350-£500 depending on what the council agrees). Worst comes to the worst and we’re left with roughly £225 in the bank. During last season we took in £1,526 from membership, match fees, donations, sponsors, and toilet fee.
Ed/Isaac reported that there had been a delay in setting up internet banking due to some minor details around address information supplied. This is now being reapplied for.
Isaac raised the issue of subscriptions paid in 2021 by members who subsequently did not play a match. Given this was due to them not making themselves available rather than not being selected the meeting agreed that no refund is due, but that specific requests from members (if they should happen) will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Phil Hunter who has announced his retirement has £16 of match fee credit. The meeting agreed that a refund should be offered. The club will also invite Phil the club dinner in 2022 as a final farewell.
Isaac and Antony highlighted the important role that sponsorship has played in recent years in financing the club. The small balance held once bills for the year are paid is almost entirely due to sponsorship funds.
Proposed change/increase in ground fees paid to the Playing Field Trust
Chris Burhop has approached the club requesting that we look to change the way that we pay for pitch hire. He is proposing £20 per match rather than £350 for the season.
Alternative proposal by Antony Cox.
I personally have concerns regarding switching to a play as you play formula. Whilst subtle (and probably not intentional) what Chris proposes changes the hire of the ground for the season to hire of the ground for the period of play. I would therefore propose that we offer to increase or seasonal ground hire fee for the 2022 season to £450, and then to £500 in 2023. That’s 128% & 142% increase on our current rate. This should then be capped for 5 years unless there are significant improvements to facilities for cricket. While Chris’s proposal potentially offers a potential saving (if fixtures played remain at current levels) I believe it would be false economy as it does not secure the ground for cricket across the summer in the way it is currently.
Data on match fixtures
2017: 38 Home & Away matches scheduled. 8 cancelled.18 Home matches played of which 13 x T20.
2018: 33 Home & Away matches scheduled. 8 cancelled.15 Home matches played of which 6 x T20.
2019: 35 Home & Away matches scheduled. 13 cancelled.14 Home matches played of which 8 x T20.
2020: Ignored due to COVID impact.
2021: 36 Home & Away matches scheduled. 16 cancelled.14 Home matches played of which 8 x T20.
Note: 15 completed home fixtures would cost £300 using this new system. Clarification is required that there will be no fee for cancelled fixtures.
Following a detailed discussion of the options and issues the following proposal to be returned to Chris Burhop was voted on.
The club agrees to a switch to paying £20 per match. This agreement to be set for a 2-year period before review. Games cancelled before play commences would not incur a fee. Use of the changing rooms and toilets (inside and outside) is included.
Formalising this in writing and agreement on the payment process would be required.
The proposal was passed 8 votes for to 2 votes against.
Action: The Club will write to Chris with this proposal.
Annual membership fees 2022
- Senior membership subscription = £30
- Junior membership subscription = £20
- Sidmouth Junior Members, Membership = £10
Sunday match fees
- Junior & concessions playing fee = £2
- Pay per play membership (temporary members) = £5*
*Note: Captains will be given discretion on applying this fee where individuals are helping the club out to field a side. However, everyone must be conscious of the need for the club to fund activities.
Opposition Playing Fee
The meeting agreed to request a £10 fee from all away sides for home matches.
Proposed by M Raistrick, seconded by A. Cox. Agreed by all present.
Action: All members to be made aware of fees for 2022 and asked to ensure that they are paid promptly.
Fixture Secretary's report
To follow.
Phil Hunters Retirement
Phil has announced that he will be retiring with immediate effect. The club will miss Phil greatly and would like to formally thanks him for all is playing and no playing efforts over the years.
Jubilee Celebration - Playing Field Day
Hi all
The PC/NPPFF is trying to put a plan together for the jubilee weekend. One of the thoughts is to put on a “sports day” type event with a number of current village sports showcased such as tennis, table tennis, mini cricket and perhaps football (Sidmouth JV) – aim would be for Saturday 4th June & it would be aimed at both adults and children.
Would the cricket club be interested in being involved with that? Probably the afternoon, from say 1 -4 or 2 – 5. I thought it would be a good opportunity to showcase existing clubs. We may also put on some ancillary sports such as races (egg & spoon, sack race, etc) and maybe some other sports such as skittles etc.
There will be a large marquee on the outfield near the pavilion so that would need bearing in mind. Not sure whether an “exhibition” mini cricket match or French cricket style game would be appropriate?
We’d probably run the community café all afternoon & possibly BBQ etc. We are aiming to put a disco on in the evening…
I hope you could come back to me asap as we are looking to firm up plans
Kind regards
Chris
Further message
Hi all
Quick update – the PTA are also planning a “sports day” type event on the Friday 3rd at the playing fields. This is likely to be different in nature to the PC’s proposal to showcase the local sports clubs.
We thought the PC could sponsor one or more trophies for the clubs participating – say a Platinum Jubilee Trophy – for any club which undertook say a mini tournament etc.
Hope that’s useful.
Kind regards
Chris
Club response
Generally, there was some concern over whether this is viable. No one felt particularly positive towards a competition or a trophy. A hard ball match was a nonstarter due to risks and insurance. It was also felt that any activities would require netting to make safe
The meeting agreed to return to Chris with the following proposal.
The club would look to run supervised softball cricket bowling and batting activities on the edge of the square from 2-4pm on the proposed day. This would be subject to the weather, satisfactory netting being available and an assessment of the impact of other events and activities on the ground that day. The activities would be open to anyone attending the event.
The club does have netting, but this has not been used for several years and until its condition is establish it is unclear if this will be useable.
Action: The Club will write to Chris with this proposal.
Pre-season groundwork
Dates
Sunday 3 April from 10am. Backup Day 10 April.
Work required
- Sightscreens
- Square posts
- Scorebox.
Damage to the scorebox floor seems to have appeared since the scorebox was moved by the Parish Council.
Action: The Club will write to Chris for his observations.
Fundraising & Sponsorship
Isaac and Ash to work on contacting existing and new sponsors for 2022.
The club will look to renew its Shirt Sponsor for 2022 and will approach the Cannon Inn in the first instance to offer them the opportunity to retain. As many members have Cannon branded playing shirts it was agreed that we would like to provide each member registered in 2022 a subsidised polo shirt to be worn before and after matches.
It was also agreed to contact ex members to see if playing shirts would be donated to create a useable stock for new or temporary members to use on match days.
Action: A. Cox to contact Matt Cooke to establish cost for 25 polo shirts as a bulk order and the feasibility for bespoke numbers and initials.
Social activities
Possible away day to Taunton. R Combs to investigate.
Any other business
Sonya requested a bigger scorebook.
Action: Isacc Thomas to investigate options.
