Newton Poppleford Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets
Match report
Newton Poppleford entertained Allsaints on sunday at the back lane ground the visitors elected to bat first as they were missing 3 players and hoping they would arrive before they needed to bat how ever they were not to materialise so
2 newton colts watching were drafted into the opposition team Callum Burns and Asa Unsworth ,how ever they were not required to bat as the 8 allsaints batsmen set about the Newton attack from the off as if it were 20/20 not a 40 over match smashing 14 from Ross Chatwoods first over george houses first over removed the opener Draper with his sixth ball for a very quick fire 14 this brought trott too the crease to join F Wallace and they put on a 100 partnership a much needed wicket was needed third change bowler Alex (athelete) Raistrick provided with one that cut back of the seam and bowled trott for a fine 53 another 30 runs were added before dambuster stone had wallace caught by a fine running catch at deep fine leg by Matthew Raistrick we have not seen him run that fast since the club president said it was his round ,the last few overs saw another flurry of runs which brought up the saints total to 189 off there 40 overs but not before Stoner got his second wicket of the day. After another best in Devon tea supplied this week by Mel and Caz thanks ladies aided by the injured Alsford and his washing up skills not to forget his marrigolds,Ben Wooley and Dave Sykes opened the reply they put on 47 before Wooley was run out for 24. Alex Raistrick entered the fold smashing seven fours and one six in a chanceless 70 not out Sykes was out for 67 with six fours and two sixes Tom (chuck) Clay was stumped of the bowling of Guesting colt Callum Burns it was left too Matt Hill 18 not out to join Raistrick and see Newton to a convincing 7 wicket win with 8 overs to spare thanks to Lynne House for scoring the injured Mac marsh and James (John) House for umpiring and the 2 colts Asa and Callum who did not let themslves down in turning out for the saints, all that was left to do was to congregate at the club sponsor the Cannon inn for coffee and biscuits !!!
