Newton Poppleford Cricket Club NPCC v Tedburn St Mary on Sun 13 May 2012 at 14:15
Newton Poppleford Cricket Club Won By 34 runs

Match report Newton Popp welcomed Tedburn St Mary to the Recreation ground and were greeted by a strange phenomenon called sunshine!
Kenny Clay won the toss and decided to have a bat. Openers James House and Reverend Bill Gates started steadily, punishing bad deliveries but respectful to some tidy bowling from Tedburn .Gates was first to go ,bowled for 18. House was joined by Thomas Clay who briefly promised a repeat performance of last weeks batting success including a glorious 6 over the mid off boundary but he was adjudged lbw for 11. Richard Coombs , had requested to drop down the order from his opener role and this seemed to pay off as, together with the reliable House picked up regular boundaries and built what probably was the match winning partnership. Coombs fell for 21 and House for 31 ( an innings which included four 4's and a 6).The middle order fell foul of some interesing lbw decisions and the tail didn't really wag . The home side all out for 120 in the 33rd over.
Tedburn's reply didn't start well as the "metronome" bowling of Ed Thomas was at its usual high standard . Thomas's 7 overs costing just 22 runs and producing 2 wickets , he wasn't really supported from the other end as Matthew Raistrick's radar was not at its best although he did pick up a wicket. A double bowling change brought Mac Marsh and Ben Stone into the action , these two bowlers seem early contenders for leading wicket taker this year and they quickly mopped up the innings . Marsh finishing with 4 for 12 and Stone 3 for 27 . There were catches for Coombs, Raistrick , 2 for Tom Clay , a smart stumping from Kenny Clay and even Bill (Teflon) Gates managed to hang on to one .( although a short prayer could be heard as the ball was heading towards him )Tedburn all out for 86 inside 21 overs. The winning start to the season continues ....

Ed starts to look for some divine intervention..

and Kenny thinks his prayers have been answered.... but sadly the umpire disagrees.

Or was it the yellow peril that scared them?

Either way they started to play and miss..

When the last wicket falls to Ben Stone another victory is sealed!!

Perhaps Ed blames the ball..

Congratulations all round.

Ben gives Tom a hand to collect the stumps.. obviously three stumps and a couple of bails are too much for one person!!

NPCC_130512 360.JPG

and its all hands to the pumps (roller) to get the clearing up done..
