Newton Poppleford Cricket Club NPCC v Donkey Sanctuary on Thu 07 May 2009 at 18.00
Newton Poppleford Cricket Club Won 9 runs

Match report The Donkey Derby saw two players making their debut for the club, Simon "howler" Howlett and Luke "laser" Raistrick.
A contrived toss saw Newton "asked" to bat in typically English conditions - swirling, misty rain that permeates every where and opened the batting with the two least gifted Raistrick`s - Alex and Matt. As usual Alex didn`t last long bringing the inform Stott in. A few "bunker swings" too many from father Raistrick saw him depart for 15.
Stott found his zone, parked a few over the boundary and kept the score ticking over but he was looking to partner Coombs to do the same, as usual he couldn`t oblige and played a typically awful shot to bring Clay to the crease.
Stott reached his retirement score of 30 letting Cardwell have a go and he threatened to, but didn`t, and was out for 6.
Clay played an indoor shot outdoor and was run-out for 19 leaving the aggressive Alsford and not-so-junior-now Thomas Clay to take the score over the ton. Alsford slashed a fierce single for his first run of the season and TC nudged one to the boundary to finish 4 not out and the innings on 104 for 6.
The debutants "Howler" and "laser" were tasked with opening the bowling and howler`s first straight one - after about ten wide ones - saw him take his first wicket, ever, apparently. He then went on to take another one in his second over, Alex taking the catch and the donkeys only recognised batsman was gone. Retire now Howler, it will only get worse from now on. The Laser now got in on the act and bowled the batsman with a sublime delivery, he has obviously learnt never to copy his father and he now has better figures than him - actually most players have.
TC and Alsford were up next and TC took his wicket well, Stott taking the catch and then getting a wicket himself when K Clay took a catch. Cardwell and Coombs took over but finished wicket-less.
Alex took a wicket but it cost him 18 runs (from 2 overs!!?)before taking the pads (but declining the box) from senior Clay.
With a catch and a stumping already to his credit Clay then proceeded to grab the man-of-the-match award with two wickets.
But the Donkeys had somehow got near their target and only needed 20 from the last two overs and with the senior Raistrick bowling anything could happen. But after taking consultation and advice from the "laser" he proceeded to bowl an exceedingly tight last over to leave the Donkeys ten short of the winning line.
